Description
Bowfin (Amia calva) are bony fishes related to gars. Common names include mudfish, mud pike, dogfish, griddle, grinnell, swamp trout and choupique. The bowfin is a voracious fish found in sluggish North American waters from the Great Lakes southward to the Gulf of Mexico.
Not considered very glamorous many still perceive Bowfin to be trash fish, needing to be eradicated. This is not the case. They have their place in our complex ecosystem and actually help with controlling the biomass. Bowfins are arguably the most scrappy junkyard-dog fish in freshwater. Truly worthy of getting one mounted. Many sizes available. Painted to match your photos.
